Welcome!

Welcome to the site. This is a quick introductory document to answer the proverbial Prisoner-esque question, "what's it all about?"

The whole sordid story is found in the "About Us" page, but I'll condense it here. Morons.org is a site about morons. Why would anyone want a site that goes on about morons? The answer is obvious: because there just weren't enough of them already.

By "morons" we refer primarily not to raw intelligence but rather the behaviour of an individual or group. We are mostly concerned with groups which would deny life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness to others in order to get some kind of sick satisfaction for themselves. In other words, we're civil libertarians.

Moronic behaviour and attitude knows no political, social, or economic boundaries. Hypocrisy plays no favorites. Therefore, this site is neither liberal nor conservative. It is our wish to neither uplift the poor while vilifying the rich or vice-versa. We're neither yuppies nor hippies. We're just people, just like you (we're all people), who have grown weary of the morons in our society dragging the rest of us down.

You see, we're thinkers and armchair philosophers. We want to be free to think and reason. We want to be free to live our lives and make decisions as we see fit. We are tired of the interference we get from a variety of sources. We are angry at them for trying to block us from being happy because they cannot attain happiness for themselves.

While we often will attack religious fundamentalists, especially Christian extremist groups like the American Family Association and the Family Research Council, don't take that as an indication that this is another brainless Christian bashing site. It's true that we're often guilty of not being specific enough, so when you see us talking about wretched Christians, please excuse our imprecise language and assume that we mean the fundamentalist types who do unholy things like lobby Congress and try to pass stupid ballot initiatives in an attempt to secure more power for themselves, not the kind and gentle Christians who feed the homeless and care for the infirmed. Our hats are off to people of all faiths who, because of their faith, feel inclined to help others without harming others.

You will often see right-wing conservatives attacked here as well. This should not be taken as an implied left-wing slant, and here's why: morons.org is primarily about social commentary. Far-right conservatives, especially the religious right, oppose social evolution and tolerance of diversity. This stance is diametrically opposed to ours. Do not take our opposition of far-right conservatism as an endorsement of far-left liberalism. While exact personal viewpoints here vary from poster to poster (I happen to be a dyed-in-the-wool Libertarian, for example), many here are just as opposed to socialist idealism as totalitarian theocracy... but as this is not a site devoted primarily to economics but to social evolution, you won't see as much about this.

Each week, we send out a mailing to our mailing list containing the top stories from the previous week. These stories are not chosen by us, but by you, the reader. When you vote on an article, post comments to an article, mail the article to a friend or read an article, you contribute to a wacky voodoo calculation that I pulled right out of my ass to give an article weight. The top 5 weighted articles are what makes the mailing each week. If you like the site, please consider subscribing to the mailing list. In any case, please feel free to express yourself by posting comments to the articles!
